Bradwell Library played host on Saturday 6th April to the first Saturday Parent and Child Art Club as part of the 'Be Anything Do Anything Project'
The main theme behind this weeks session was Space. The idea of the morning session was to complete works for display in Skippings Gallery 1st-4th May.
The morning began at 9.00am when ten children (ranging between 3-11) arrived with their parent ready and eager to begin work.
A selection of activities were made available, which would suit all age ranges and abilities;
Shooting Stars
Rockets
Planets creation
Shooting Stars
A selection of paper star shapes were pre-cut along with the paper trails were provided, glue and colouring materials were made also made available.
(Molly, Oliver and Zachery getting creative early on a Saturday morning)
Rockets
Pre-printed rockets were supplied to be decorated how they wanted, many chose to use the colouring materials to decorate them, whilst others decorated them with an array of coloured papers.
Planets
A selection of cardboard circles were provided to be decorated in their own style, paint, a variety of coloured paper and textured material was made available to use.
All the group chose to paint their planet, they were encouraged to use different collage materials to produce different effects, however most chose to continue with the paint. Some utilised bubble-wrap to produce paint effects, whilst others used it as a structural material to create a spaceship. The idea was to encourage creativity and merely supply the materials to produce a piece of work, assistance was given if needed but most were happy to carry on and create their own design. As a result the planets were al very individual and will hopefully create an eye-catching display in the gallery window.
The session came to an end at 10.00am and the children appeared proud and happy with their works.
One visitor to the library stated;
"This is what it's all about, the children look relieved and happy, this is a great thing you're doing here" (Brian, Library visitor 06.04.19)
The children (and parents) seemed keen to return the following week, it would appear after the first session the plan is to trial the sessions for a month will be a success. If these activities are well received the proposal is to teach the children (and parent) a new skill, work with different materials or follow a different theme each week. Initial discussions with the children was the desire to learn to work in 3D and develop drawing skills, this is something which will be pursued after the exhibition completion.
